THE SHELTER

I strive to offer the best support I can for new bird owners or owners needing to rehome their beloved or hated feathered friends. I have limited space in the shelter but will help you in any way I can to make your decision easier on you and your bird. I do not judge those who need to find new homes for their bird as I fully understand that somethings just cant be changed and I am very happy that you have chosen me to help you. I have experiance with birds from Zebra Finches to Umbrella Cockatoo's and really want to specialize in helping the larger parrot variety due to their needs and requirements. All birds stay with me for a period of time so I can assess their individual needs, likes and dislikes and their level of care required to keep them happy. All birds in the shelter are surrendered but I do charge a small adoption fee to cover their costs while they stay here. I match suitable adopter's with a matched bird, I donnot let the adopter pick their individual bird as this may not end up a good situation( not all Lovebirds are the same personality)

I have now branched out the shelter to beable to help small animals( Rabbits, Guinea Pigs, Chinchillas, Mice, Rats and other little critters and also Reptiles, and aquatics( fish, turtles).

 The Aviary

I also breed on a very small scale to help offset the costs of the Shelter. I breed Visual Green split to Blue and visual Blue split to Green Quaker Parrots. These are quite comical parrots and make great pets for someone who wants a little more skill then a cockatiel or Love Bird. Im also in the process of getting into breeding Nyasa LoveBirds and Lady Gouldian Finches. These are beautiful little creatures a true gem of the Avicultural world. If you are interested in any type of bird  in the aviary or shelter please contact me and we can go from there.

A few Questions that you need to ask yourself before buying or adopting a bird.

 1. Do you rent or own? Big question. This is nothing against you as an owner but to protect the birds  I DONOT sell to renters. What happends to the bird if your land lord finds out ( no pets allowed apt) Birds are noisy, maybe not when you are there but  when your not they are, some species can be heard upto 3 miles!! what happends if you have to move and your new place doesnt allow pets.

 2. do you have at least an hour a day to devote strickly to your feathered friend. Birds are flock animals and need that connection, A single bird cannot groom as well so they like it when you pick at their new peathers beind theri neck :)

3. You dont just feed birds you cook for them. They love whole wheat pasta, mixed veggies, fruit, toast and birdie bread( google it).

4.  It's not just the cost of the bird that can be expensive, but the cage, toys and food are not cheap either. make sure financially you can do it long term and that there are no emidiate life changes to occure that you know of ( marriage, upcoming child or wanting to(will you want to still spend time with your bird).

5. Do you work long hours at work or like to travel. A bird may not be the best for you right now.

There are still hundreds of Questions you need to ask yourself if you are ready to get a bird I have only listed a few here. But remember little things matter too, never cook with TEFLON, feed coffee, chocolate  and do your research as breeders and never  ever buy a bird on the spir of the moment only the bird will suffer.
